Many companies already have checklists for starting construction or energising, though they often differ from team to team and lack a clear sign-off. Delays tend to start at the changes of phase, and works that begin with a permit under appeal, or a handover to operations without the final documentation, come back later as a stoppage or a claim. We review the lists the company already uses and rebuild them if necessary.
Our view
- 01
Each gate has its list, adapted to the technology and the country, and each item on the list has an owner in the RACI.
- 02
The value of the list lies in the decision that closes it. Whoever signs declares the project ready or lists the gaps it moves ahead with.
- 03
Moving ahead with gaps is a legitimate decision, provided it is written down who closes them and by when.
What we deliver
We adapt the lists to each technology and country and integrate them into the company's RACI, schedule and document management system.
- The lists for the three gates, into development, construction and operations.
- The owner of each item and who signs each gate.
- The sign-off format, with the gaps, their owner and their date.
- The link between each item and its evidence in the document management system.
- Training for the team, and the indicators and meetings the company uses to follow the process, with our support if needed.
Agents and tailored tools
Where the volume justifies it, and if the company wishes, an agent checks that the file for each gate is complete before the decision meeting. It looks for each document in the document management system, flags what is missing with its owner and date, and prepares the status of the list for whoever signs it. The signature remains a person's.
What it connects to
The lists bring together what the other processes produce, such as permits and contracts, open critical risks, the schedule and CAPEX baselines and the documentation for each phase. The RACI sets who signs each gate, the document management system provides the evidence and whatever is outstanding at signature passes to the handover with an owner and a date. Lessons learned add requirements to the lists. The list is filled with what the other processes have already produced, and nobody has to prepare the same document twice.
